Short films made in the “Els espectadors” (Audience) workshops within the European project “New Borders 2009-2013”, which aims to establish a bond between prison and society through creative workshops.
These audiovisual pieces explore the barriers that separate individuals; they are not only geographical borders, but also linguistic, spiritual, economic and cultural borders, among others. While reflecting on and delving into the phenomenon of borders, “Els espectadors” (Audience) also aims to spur knowledge and the development of audiovisual productions with archival footage. Thus, audiovisual producers, prisoners and the residents of the different cities involved have come together to make a number of different short films, all of which entail the use of archival footage previously selected from the archives of the National Audiovisual Institute of France (INA).
“New Borders 2009-2013” is headed by the production company Lieux Fictifs (France), in cooperation with the association TRANSFormas (Catalonia), the social cooperative E.S.T.I.A. (Italy), the Westerdals School of Communication (Norway) and Unter Wasser Fliegen (Germany), and coproduced by the INA and Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture.
